It’s still hot and an ice-cold Mocha would go down a treat right about now. I love ’em … but we’re into improving our diet. Right? No more zero-nutrient calories is the plan. So what about some of the things we have loved and now avoid. Does that mean we can never taste them again? NO! This is why we’re learning about adjusting and substituting foods and re-making some of our favorite recipes – smoothie recipes, too. Right? It’s easier to stick with our healthy-eating goals when we can turn some of our old favorites into healthy-food versions

LaurendaMarie worked in a coffee shop for several years, drinking too many mochas and thus too much sugar. Her fix? Homemade! She tells us …

A trick I use for the creaminess and to lower the sugar content is to use a green-ish banana. Green, or unripened bananas, contain less sugar than their yellow ripened versions. Did you know that? Using them in their green state also reduces the strong banana flavor so our tastebuds can focus on the irresistible chocolate & coffee flavors.

Tip: I buy a lot of bananas on each grocery trip. I chunk and freeze them weekly for smoothies – some green and some yellow. It makes smoothie makin’ much more convenient!
